Christian Mingle vs. Match.com :: Which one is better?
If there were ever 2 online dating sites that were similar, it’s Christian Mingle and Match.com. They’re not exactly the same, of course, but they share a similar feel when compared with other traditional online dating sites.
The amount of control these two sites give users is quite vast, especially when compared to eharmony. And after using both of these sites, one can infer that putting control in the hands of the user means giving the user a bit of option overload. We realize, though, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it just depends on what you’re looking for in an online dating site.
Christian Mingle vs. Match.com :: The Similarities
Paid Features: If you want to send and receive emails, chat with, instant message, or see who’s viewed, liked, winked, or smiled at you, you’re going to have to pay up. And the cost for both sites is similar. One month on either site is going to cost you around $35. If you purchase more than one month, both sites offer discounts. For instance, at the time we published this post, both sites offered 6-month plans for around $16-17 a month.
Last Login: One of the biggest complaints about online dating, besides price, is inactive members diluting the dating pool. Both Christian Mingle and Match let you know the date of the match’s last login. Both also show if the member is presently online, so you can chat with them if you like that option. This is one of the most helpful tools in online dating and an area where their competitor, eharmony is lacking. If a person hasn’t been on the site in weeks or months, you don’t want to waste your time.
Matching Options: While you can search the database of both sites for any gender, age, religion, or a myriad of other preferences you might have, both sites also offer a quick match option that is similar to the Tinder/Hinge/Hot or Not method of “check yes or no by simply looking at the profile and knowing nothing else about them.” The difference is that you are able to look at each member’s profile and get more details about them, which is more than can be said for the apps.
Christian Mingle vs. Match.com :: The Differences
Match offers the following options that Christian Mingle doesn’t:
Match Me: This feature places you in the Daily Matches of the people you really like. Search for a match and click to be matched with them. If they don’t reach out to you, then it wasn’t meant to be, but it’s not because they didn’t see you in the sea of matches.
Daily Matches: Match draws your attention to 10 specific matches each day. They use their Synapse, intelligent matching technology, to pair you with based on personality, preferences, on-site actions, and behavior predictions.
Stir Events: And, if you’re not one to hide behind a computer screen, Match also offers you the option of Stir Events. They host local meet-ups for members in major cities, as well as trips you can take to meet other singles.
Now, here’s what makes Christian Mingle different from Match:
Question of the Week: In an effort to draw your attention to other matches you might’ve otherwise missed, Christian Mingle offers a Question of the Week that shows up in your newsfeed when you log in. You can then see other matches answers to the question and reach out to them, if you’re intrigued.
Chat Rooms & Message Boards: There’s the ability to chat with a match, and then there are chat rooms and message boards. Admittedly, it’s Web 1.0, but evidently some people are still into that type of thing, and Christian Mingle provides them with that opportunity.
Christian Demographic: Christian Mingle is not owned by a Christian company, but the target audience is Christians nonetheless. It’s important to note, the term “Christian” means different things to different people, so simply because the site caters to a Christian demographic, does not mean you’ll necessarily find a sea of like-minded believers.
Christian Mingle vs. Match.com :: Too Close to Call
We have to declare a draw here. The differences between the two sites are marginal, and nothing that’s significant enough to give one site the edge over the other. We’ve heard from people who’ve met their spouses on both Match and Christian Mingle, but we’ve heard of far more Christians who found their spouses using eharmony, which is why we still rank it in first place.
If you’re deciding between Christian Mingle vs. Match.com, though, it’s up to you. We think you’ll find both sites to be more similar than different.
