How Does Match.com Work? You know, for Christians?
A lot of Christians are skeptical about whether or not Match.com is a good investment for our types. What “types” you ask? Well, those of us who love Jesus…a lot. And it’s a valid question.
We do know solid believers who have met on Match and enjoyed their experience on the site. Granted, we know far more who have met through eharmony, but Match is also a completely viable option.
So if you’re considering trying out Match.com but you want to get the gist of how it works before you jump in, we’ve got you covered.
How Does Match.com Work? :: Setting Up Your Profile
The Match profile process is pretty simple. One of the most difficult parts of setting up an account is determining your profile name. Figuring out that delicate balance between not using your actual name, trying to figure out which of your interests/hobbies are good enough to spotlight in your screen name, yet not making that screen name tacky can give a person pause. The good thing is that most people don’t even pay attention to profile names—unless they’re utterly ridiculous—so don’t stress about it, but at least give it a good try.

How Does Match.com Work? :: The Matching Process
Unlike eharmony which pretty much has one streamlined communication process, Match offers a variety of ways to find and communicate with matches:
Search: You can conduct your own search for profiles from the full Match.com database. You can choose age, education, smoking, drinking, body type, etc. You can also search for matches by faith, although you’re limited to Christian-Catholic, Christian-Protestant, and Christian-Other.
Daily Matches: Each day Match will…well, match you with profiles they think fit your criteria. On average, you’ll get around 6-8 daily matches each day. You can let Match know whether or not you’re interested in each match. That helps their algorithm to know how to better search for matches for you in the future.
Match Me: This places you in the Daily Matches of people you really like. When you find someone who you want to notice you, you can tell Match to add you to that person’s Daily Matches. When you “favorite” a match’s profile, they receive a notification about it. Match Me is a good alternative to finding out if they’re interested in you without having to make the first move.
Mutual Matches: This option gives you a list of profiles of people who are looking for the same qualities in a match that you are. If you change those options on your profile, this list will be updated.
Reverse Matches: These matches are looking for someone like you, based on what you’ve listed about yourself in your profile. On the other hand, you might not necessarily be looking for someone like them.
Communities: Are you into brand loyalty? Say you LOVE your Starbucks coffee or the Atlanta Braves, and it’s a prerequisite for your significant other to share that love. (We hope you’re not hinging your future marriage on a love for coffee or sports, but if you are…) Match allows you to show your brand loyalty on your profile and find other people who love the same things. (It’s one more way Match can make money by partnering with these brands, actually.)
There are also the standard options for liking a member’s profile or photo, favoriting it, winking at a match, emailing, or chatting with them online, too.
Match.com and Christian Mingle have a lot of similarities in the way they both work. The biggest difference is that supposedly everyone on Christian Mingle is “Christian.” (Did you roll your eyes at that like we did? Yeah…)
There are plenty of Christians on Match.com, too.
