We're constantly searching for ways to make our trips even more meaningful--even road trips to see our alma mater play football.

There are few things I love more than travel. And by “few,” I mean Jesus, my family and friends, and…that’s about it. Because it’s so sacred to me, I am always searching for ways to make trips even more meaningful than just going to a location, doing the tourist thing, and heading home.

I’ve been traveling with the same group of college friends for several years, and we’re taking our tenth trip together this summer. Our traveling camaraderie began with a birthday celebration trip to Vegas…

{Disclaimer: The Holy Rollers are probably thinking, “Birthdays? In Vegas?!” I promise we’re wild and crazy good Christian kids. Please wait until you’ve read the entire post before you start praying for our heathen souls.} [Read more...]

Where is your favorite place?

Where is your absolute favorite place?

For most of us, when asked that question, we think of either some really cool location we’ve traveled to or being with a specific person or group of people, like close friends or family members.

For me personally, one of the first places that comes to mind is being with my best friend, the man I will soon marry, Ryan. And, listen, oh how I LOVE being with him. The actual “where” doesn’t even seem to matter as long as I’m there with him.

But notice I said one of the first places that comes to mind. There is actually one other place—one other very special place—that comes to mind even before Ryan, and that’s when I’m spending one-on-one time worshiping our Heavenly Father.

Now most of us have heard of a quiet time. Even more of us are familiar with worshiping corporately on a Sunday morning. And while both of those things are really important, even vital, to our relationship with the Lord, the one-on-one worship time I’m talking about is similar, yet a little different. [Read more...]

Ah, cassette tapes...we don't miss you one bit.

[Update: There is an additional link to Share My Playlist at the end of the post, if you are experiencing problems with the Spotify link.]

Last week, we launched our first [root]Question, with answers from [root]Writers. This week, we took our question to to you, the readers. We asked you to tweet, Facebook, or email us your responses, and you did not disappoint!

Our question was:
What one song do you think should be on anyone’s mix tape of “classic” music?

After defining “classic” as “any type of music across all genres,” your answers started pouring in. (Yeah, we’ll try to be a little less difficult to understand next time. Our apologies.)

We had a plan with all of this, by the way. Not only did we want to list your answers in the Monday [root]Question, but we also wanted them so that we could create our first SingleRoots Spotify playlist! Our plan is to release a new playlist on the first Monday of each month, and, well, you can’t release any other kind of playlist until you’ve got a “classic” one first. [Read more...]

Nothing like beginning a Saturday with a discussion on porn...

Welcome back to the SingleRoots Saturday Edition–the only place on earth (or at least the internet) that isn’t mentioning those political debates, Demi Moore’s condition, or Mark Driscoll’s new marriage book.

Let’s get down to serious business, shall we?

Should I Marry a Man with Pornography Struggles :: An insightful article from Dr. Russell Moore that addresses a very real issue for both single and married men and women. “What you need is not a sinless man. You need a man deeply aware of his sin and of his potential for further sin.” [Read more...]

Music makes the people come together. Or does it make the world go round? We can never remember.

Regardless, it’s been a good year for music. Such a good year, in fact, that we can’t even rank our favorite albums of 2011. We’re just going to put them out there and leave it at that…

NEEDTOBREATHE :: The Reckoning

We’re especially fond of this album because it came out right around the time that we started our launch plan for SingleRoots. It was on constant repeat as we started seeing this site come to fruition. But while we might have an emotional connection to it, the fact of the matter is that this album is a vivid reminder of why we love this Southern Rock band. It was so good that it even helped us get over our grief about them touring with Taylor Swift earlier this year. Besides, we owe Taylor Swift a debt of gratitude for sharing their goodness with the world. But we’ll still prefer seeing them in smaller, more intimate venues sans a bunch of tween girls, thankyouverymuch. [Read more...]
